Default 400+whp, what intercooler should I go with?

It's the Drag intercooler.

I've got everything I need to make 430whp, but I'm wondering if I should upgrade the intercooler before I get my built head installed and then get the car tuned.

I'd rather spend the money now before getting on the dyno and finding out I need a bigger intercooler, and then wasting money.

Any suggestions welcome.

It would be wise to get a bigger one. I personally made 456whp on my rev-hard ic (same size as the drag).

Why get another if 400-430whp is possible, though?

It is possible, but why run the chance of it messing up under so much pressure when you can get a bigger intercooler, keep the the air cooler, and not have as much stress on the intercooler to function properly? Most people like to build a motor for more whp then they want, for reasons of not stressing out the turbo, FMIC, or whatever may take more stress.

You are probably one of the lucky few that has a working SS Autochrome part on their car. I'm surprised your fins haven't fallen out or something like that.

actually, if you would have checked in on the SSAUTOCHROME BEWARE thread, you would see there isnt actually 1 person with problems. Maybe before you give an opinion of a product, you should first give it an evaluation. Dont just judge the book by its turbo's and manifold.

i got a yonaka intercooler, the largest one they had and i have it on my ef hatch and i even have 3" charge pipes and there is no boost drop. My air is always hella cold. I would keep your eyes on an upgrade perhaps in the near future but for now just run what you have.

i dont think there is an intercooler that can beat the deal of a ss autocrome. you get a large intercooler that works very well for just over $200 shipped. and i ordered mine on a thursday and got it monday.

How is it not really a good cooler for the price? There are quite a few ppl making good power on this cooler, and it works fine. For 200 bucks or less, it's not that bad of a deal.

show me one that's cracked in a situation where any other i/c on earth wouldn't crack

and the JRC are ok..when compared to themselves..but there's just much better stuff out there, core wise.

what do you mean in a situation where any other one wouldnt crack , there is little to no stress on the end tanks themselfs , i can see from boost pressure they could split at the weld oe somthing , ive seen them break off right after the coupler
