Default Tach drops to Zero when I press the gas pedal

I've done a search on this, but the best I could come up with was an ignitor problem, that I don't think I'm having...

Yesterday, I noticed that when the car's in neutral (at a stop light) and a press fairly hard on the brakes, my needle will drop from ~800rpm (idle) to flat out 0. As soon as I let go, it jumps back to ~800rpm. The engine sounds fine, its just the tach that bounces.

However, the problem went away later in the day... in case it happens again, what could be causing this?

same **** happened to me in my civic.
I had a bad ground connection at the main fuse relay near the battery.

these symptoms may be the sign of a poor charging electrical system or a major problem about to happen. have it checked out by a trusted mechanic or do some basic investigating on your own.

have you recently modded your car in any way that included playing with the electrical system????

Thanks for the reply. No, I haven't touched the electrical system at all. I seriously hope its not going to cause major problems, because I can't afford it right now!!!
