Default which oil burns the least?

yes i know this topic has been covered before but the search is so hit and miss...
has anybody experiemented to see which oil burns the least in the dohc vtec motors? it seems the general consensus is that these motors eat some oil if you like to live in the vtec. some threads people have said that they burned less oil when they switched from mobil1 to castrol synthetics. just wondering if one oil actually burns less than the others. thanks!

i am using motul 300v competition , but i think this oil is not very good for 'stock' cars

Castrol RS 10w40 or Castrol TWS motorsport i think it's the best

it is normal if u rev the car just on the vtec to consume oil ? how much ?

i usually take it right to redline 2 or 3 times every time i drive the car. rarely do i drive it and not hit vtec at all. that's what it's there for, right?

The redline is an excelent oil, their 10w40 should work very well in your setup. I use 0 oil with redline 10w30 or the green german castrol 0w30 syntec. Mobil 1 always seems to burn of in any car i have used it in.

I have never seen it here. Well, other then the crap at the gas station which I am sure is someone else's oil and their label. But I think they make industrial lubes.

http://www.esso.com if you are actually curious.

In my honda I just use 10W30 - 5W30 (summer/winter) from castrol or whatever and a bosch filter. why? because it's a honda, it really doesn't need better/expensive in my opinion. Just not the ultra cheap crap.

Mobile1 supersyn 5-30 doesnt seem to burn for me at all. If any, its very little, and I hit the high rpms at least 4-5 times a day.

hey civic, whereabouts in the bay area are you, and i'm assuming it's a civic, but which one? because i've noticed that dohc motors tend to burn oil, not the sohc vtec motors (h22, b18, b16, k20, c20, or whatever one the s2000 is). my 154k mile accord doesn't burn a drop, but my 121k mile gsr burns noticeably when i get into the vtec.

Im in the milpitas/fremont area. The b16 doesnt seem to burn at all. My d16 use to burn alot more for some reason??! Its an ex witha b16a2.

I had stored a quart of oil under the seat and its been 4 months with more than 2/3's of the oil left. If it was the d16, I probably would of went through a couple bottles at 4k+ miles on the oil.

i tried adding a little bit of lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer to my oil, and it worked well for stopping the burning.

Just to throw in my 2 cents, but I seem to burn less oil in my 00 gsr (b18c1) with 10-30 than with 5-30. Both Mobil 1 full synthetic. With the 10-30, I seem to go through a quart every 3k miles.

about that lucas oil stabilizer...doesn't it just make your oil into a much thicker weight? and i guess it also makes it stickier. couldn't you accomplish the same thing by just running thicker oil to begin with? whats the difference between thin oil with oil stabilizer, and thicker oil?

I've never heard anyone speak well about Havoline before now. One person at Napa Auto Parts told me Havoline is the only oil in his experience that smelled burned right out of the bottle.

Oil consumption could be due to other things, other than VTEC. Its not safe to say that one random motor burns more oil than another random motor, because of VTEC. VTEC may cause oil consumption, but its usually a small factor compared to other things that could cause a car to burn oil.

Also, a "slicker" oil may burn more, and leak from places that a heavier weight oil may not... but in all actuality may "lube" your motor better.

yea its thick as honey, and has **** in it so it doesnt break down as much i believe.

i would just run thicker oil instead, but my car is boosted, has over 200k miles and im already running 10w-40 and that burns way too much w/o the lucas. i run .5 gt lucas per 3.5qts 10w-40 (i use castrol gtx), and go through maybe 2qts per 3k mile oil change.

see to me, oil stabilizer just means you're running oil that's too thick for your engine. that's bad news right?
