the b16 tranny has annoyingly low gearing. which is great for ripping around but once you get on the freeway the first thing that will cross your mind is "why in the hell is there no 6th gear?!" so yeah. your call.

B16 5th gear @ 80mph = 4800 rpm (i think, it could be 4600) = not good for the longevity of your LS engine.

GSR 5th gear @ 80mph = 4000 rpm = up there, but not as bad as a B16

maybe the GSR tranny might be better since its kinda short and not soo bad on the freeway.

b16 might be too short especially since your redline is 6900

get the b16 you love it. I have it on my LS and my only regret is why didn't I get this sooner. Cruise around 4200-4400 @ 80 can't complain. But if your planning to boost get a GSR tranny. Other than that, b16 is the way to go.

get the 16 tranny, you'll love it. yes you'll cruise at high rpm at 80 but just slow it down a bit and your good.

I heard it's possible to use an LS fifth gear for a b16 but y? I know save gas blah blah but it beats the purpose of having the b16 for short gear ratios. Like what someone side b4, its like running straight into a brick wall if you hav a fifth gear LS on a b16. Just run on the b16 and do a LS/Vtec and Mad VT@@@@K!

i have a gsr tranny with the 4.785 FD.... its a bit shorter than the b16 and took some getting used to but i really couldn't be happier..... cruising on the highway at 70 mph = about 4000 - 4100 rpms

i say get the b16 ... you will def be happy

also i have taken several highway trips and you really do get used to it...and hitting vtec at about 80mph will defintely make you slow down a bit, especially with current gas prices

Thats why u can always change the b16 5th gear into ls 5th so u could have longer 5th gear and it wont be annoying while u running 80mph.. its true that u 4500+ rpm on b16 tranny but theres a solution for that..

^^Holy **** are you ******* serious, an ls dosn't have vtec.......omg (in case you didn't get it i was saying that for my case)

yes you can..... gears might be a bit short for the streets, especially 4 and 5 (1,2,3 are the same as the 98+spec jdm itr trans that comes with the 4.785 fd)

wont swapping the ls 5th gear into a b 16 just ruin you in a race if you happen to have to go into 5th cuz the rpms will drop lower.

I think the guy who created this thread is relying on his daily driven car NOT a full race car so i dont think its gonna ruin u racing in 1/4 mile.

BTW: i dont even think ull hit 5th gear on quarter mile with b16 tranny.
