Black crap on bumper
Ok so the car isn't smoking..well it'll give a little puff if you get down hard on it but nothing major.. but after driving it there is that black suit crap that gets on the back bumper. So i'm thinking valve seals or maybe injectors??
The boyfriends dad can do a compression test for me.. think thats the best route? I also have the Lucas injector cleaner stuff I was going to dump in there.. I love that stuff..
Any suggestions? It seems to be the only problem so far

Mine seemed to be worse when I was burning oil, but a lot of the time it's just carbon from the fuel. It could be running rich.
Good luck. Invest in cleaning products.
Is it tan/black or black black?

Welcome to the club. I think you'll find this a very common problem. Runnin rich or burning oil. Keep an eye on your oil level. + Search because this has been beatin to death here.

well damn..
And it's black black.. I just spent 4 hours cleaning the crap out of the paint since it seems no one has ever done that to her.. But I got most of the black lil specks off with the claybar.. then I used the meguires 3 step but used NXT instead of step 3. She's smooth like a babys butt!! Then I took her out to take pics.. when I came back..black stuff on her again
Guess I'll dedicate a rag for her butt.. hah
Well at least it's a normal thing.. an annoying normal thing since I like my cars to be clean.

when you wash, use castrol cleaner. Spray on, wipes right off. Stay away from the rubbing compounds and cleaners. I have a nice sooty bumper after beating down an autocross course, the prevoius instructions do the trick every time...
Since I have the BCIII sticking out 8 inches past the bumper I don't have nearly as much black soot on the bumper, When I had the stock muffler
it would be covered in a 10 min drive.

Well, other threads on this topic have suggested Clay bar, simple green, etc.
People that care a little less about their car's paint might use Soft Scrub, Goof-Off (solvent) and/or rubbing compound.
I would think Bug&Tar remover (Turtle Wax Brand) would have a decent shot at it as well. It is terribly hard to get off no matter what method you use.
One thing I found, was that running a Tanabe Racing Medallion, with the silencer in place, the soot would shoot farther back (like Bbasso described) and not land on the paint. Uncorked, it swirls and lands on the bumper.

Thanks, Chris. oops!

Lori and I have both have 100% success at removing this residue with the clay bar, and we both have white cars.
