d16y8 into 1987 crx HF ???
im looking to buy an 87 CRX HF. was wondering if i bought this thing, what are my options for replacement engines. want to stick to the d series. how hard is it to rewire a carbed car, to fuel injected? am i going to need mounts? or am i better off stepping it up a couple of years and getting the next gen. crx? i kind of like the 1st gens a bit more though. any info will be helpful. thanx.

Since you're in MI there is also the CDM (Canadian) DX (STD?) carbed engine which has about 85hp. Anything beyond that and you will need to do one of two things: 1) convert your car to mpfi by swapping fuel lines, fuel pump, ecu, wiring, etc so you can swap in an engine with mpfi already on it, or 2) swap in an engine that was previously fi and convert it to carbs, which = $$$$ to do it right. The best/cheapest/easiest swap for your car is to find a wrecked 86-87 Integra and swap over the entire engine/drivetrain/front suspension/crossmember/brakes/wiring/etc. You could also use an 88-89 Integra but you would have to add the wiring for electronic advance ignition. Using any 88+ d-series (d16y8) is a royal PITA because all of the engine/tranny mounts are very different, and if you are going to that much trouble you may as well swap in a b-series. All of your questions are answered in the FAQ at http://www.redpepperracing.com . It's a really great board but please read the FAQ and do some searching before you ask lots of questions.

Actually, I have seen someone swap a D16A6 into a 1G CRX using a 1G Integra transmission and bolting the driver's side bracket to the holes on the block for the power steering pump. I'm not sure if the bolt hole locations are the same on a Y8.
