Default dohc zc on 87?

I heard/read that they need 92 + octane to run properly. Something about the gas in Japan and such. Is this true? or just another rumor i read about?

I'd like to know before I get one of these...

Higher octane gas will not make much difference.

I know of a few people running the cheap stuff 87 ARCO on their DOHC ZC WITH the PM6 ECU

not sure how the PG7/PM7 would respond to it.
