Default Newbie Question (turbo charging) 2003 ex

I just came back from my local speed shop looking for info on raising the proformance of my 2003 civis EX.(http://www.7453217467431.com/a...52812).
For the most HP he reccomended putting in a turbo. He quoted me a price of about $3,000 for the kit and $800 for the labor. After just a little research I agree with him. I'm not going to be racing, just "normal" driving. The guy also told me that I should expect to go from my current HP (140) to about 250HP.

The questions I have for you all are:

1. Is this a decent price?
2. What questions should I be asking him?
3. How much increase should I expect?
4. What kits do you guys like the best?
5. Should I buy it on the internet and then pay to have it instaled?

Anything else I should know or ask?

Thanx everyone.

BTW, what are other good web site for info like this one?

Uh, Civic EX models have 127hp , not 140hp, and that's at the crank, not wheels.

Also, I assume he's telling you that will will get you 250 crank hp, not wheels. No way in hell a simple bolt-on kit will give that d17 250whp. Even 250 CRANK horsepower is a bit of a stretch... I mean, you'll probably net, what... 200 whp at best? I'm not expert on this, though... so take these ruminations with a grain of salt.

Check 7thgencivic.com for lots of info specific to 7thgens. As far as HP im putting 170 to the groud and mine is boosted automatic. From what ive seen mid 250's to the ground is the current high thats been posted anywhere. but dont expect 250hp to the wheels for $3,000 and have it live to tell about it!

whoa whoa whoa, your stock civic alone puts around 100whp more or less to the wheels. at 7-8 psi (daily driver-esque), i'd say around 150-170whp, but definitely no where near 200, let alone 250.

as someone said above, in the 7thgencivic.com forced induction forum you can find people running different setups, might want to look around there. off head, i can tell you one person running 14psi pushing 245whp, probably more around there. i faintly remember someone on the SF kit and alchy injetion claiming 300hp (don't know to the wheels) but he's been executed off that site...

nevertheless, you should research on a k-series swap, it'll be better in the long-run than turbo (reliability) and more daily-driver esque.
