Did my first real wheelie lastnight
my front tire was like 3 1/2 feet in the air for a good 4 seconds. my friend was riding behind me and witnesssd it. It was weird though I was in 3rd gear diong 50mph and pulled it up when I got on it. It was so awesome It made me want to do another one. just thought id share with you guys
ps. i dont plan on doing this all the time. I just wanted to try it to get it out of my system.

Yah! Congrats! Now practice doing it in 2nd or 3rd with clutch and try to ride it out for as long as possible. I've been working on them for a while. It's fun!!!!
it is fun! but I dont want to get used to it. cuz i have friends that all got tickets for doing stunts and had their bike impounded. I just wanted to try it to say ive done it. I only want to do that and a burnout while going.
quick question. Is their an easier way to bring the front end down other then letting off throttle and letting it slam down. cuz it felt like it slamed down hard.

If you ride wheelies like you change usernames, you should be just fine

I'd hold off on this one for a while.

Assuming you're below the balance point, which at 50mph in 3rd and powering it up, you are below it... Even if you stay constant throttle it'll come back down smooth.

grab some throttle as the bike is comming down, it will set down very smooth, once you do it a few times you won't come down hard again, till you start trying to find your balance point, in which case, cover the rear brake, cause you could end up on your *** real fast, ive witnessed that first hand
edit : 50 mph in 3rd gear...wow you must have HAMMERED on the throttle. cause that seems slow as hell for a good 4rd gear wheelie, i havn't tried many in third though so im not really sure but it seems slow to me.

yeah it was real slow, but it was real touchy so i just scooted to the back of the seat and got on it and tugged back a bit and it came up

i guess 96% of all riders are squids then. The best of the best and the worst of the worst have wheelied their bikes at one point or another.

That's why i said 96%, and before anyone questions where i came up with "96%" .. it was obviously a random figure. I've seen everyone from Mldadin, #69 Hayden, Rossi to Ewan McGregor, to the 18 year old down the street who's only been ridng a week.
My point is, most riders, from the elite to the unexperienced, have wheelied at one point or another.
For me, i've never ridden a wheelie. I've popped it up a few feet quite a few times, but that's the extent of what i've done.

Well I'd say your 96% is waaaaaay of... 'cause I haven't and no one I ride with has either.
$5 says he doesn't have it "out of his system" and will be making a thread about dumping it within a month.

Odiedog, read some of this kids threads, then refer back to my squid comment. But more power to him. I put 800 miles on my bike this week riding roads in Western Mass and learning to better myself as a rider, if this kid wants to practice stunting on his spanking new 05 GXSR 750, more power to him, just hope he realizes he should probably learn to RIDE the bike first.
I learned to wheelie within a month or so of riding, about 5k miles. On a 1983 BMW. Second gear only though.....and it sounds like it hurts the thing something awful. Lots of revs, dump the clutch, up it goes.
As with all things, be sensible.
Learning to pop wheelies, hold them, and control the bike while doing so is another aspect of "learning to ride". It can never be a bad thing to learn control of the bike, regardless of the situation or manner of riding.

I will totally agree with this. I don't wheelie myself, but I sometimes wish I could.
immortal: wtf???
