SHORT SHIFTER
hey i finnaly got a full account, dats HOT! but yeah, i wanted to ask you guys a question which im not completly sure of. Last week this guy tells me that a short shifter is bad for my transmission, he said that it forces the gears. now, i dont know exacly wut he was talkin about because i have no problem going from 1-2-3-4-5-R. i love the short shifter its a whole lot better than that unblrella stick i had before. but yeah, do you guys have any experience with these.
PS. he said his boy had the same problem, but his friend bought a $5 ebay short shifter. i got B&M

i got a ebay short shifter and been using it for almost 2 years now with no problems. yes i've heard that they will shorten the syncros life span but mines dont grind or anything
Your B&M was a smart investment. I had a cheap ebay short shifter too, and the thing sucked, made my back hurt from leaning over and it ******* broke in half. A short shifter doesn't hurt your transmission, YOU hurt your transmission.
I have had a couple of Ebay short shifters in different cars, and I have never had a problem. One of them has been daily driven/raced on for over 2 years and is still perfect. The B&M one should be just fine
you say its better than the "umbrella stick" you had before. the word "short" in short shifter is not the overall length of the shifter, but rather a shorter throw.

Yea that ^
I would think a people would say a short shifter will hurt your tranny because some poeple will be more prone to slamming it in the gears faster and wearing out the syncros that way. Its not the short shifter itself, but rather the person and how they shift.
With my oem shifter I can slam it into gears too fast as well and gring up stuff, I just make sure I take the extra .0001 sec and shift smoothly so I dont grind.
My tranny > .0001 sec in a race.
If I did get a short shifter it would be more for the feal and not for any 'go faster' purpose.

If i were you i would find a shifter that is height adjustable, i heard of those never really done any homework on them. but they do exist. going through all that trouble to change the height is too much, i think.
