just dropped a b16 in my 88 si. Its nice....hauls *** compared to the stock si motor. If i could do it again (which i prob will) i would drop a ls/vtec. Either way, you will need a mount kit and some axles, and a shift linkage, in addition to the engine tranny and ecu
B16a is the grand daddy swap, freakin' late 80's motors...garbage. Ls/VTEC is the way to go. Or LS w/ a turbo setup, but from personal experience ls/vtec still hauls mad poo.
Oh I'm getting this crx for 500 bucks, but it doesn't run. I can go with a LS swap or a B16a but I heard you have to change the axles and install a cable tranny. Is a LS VTEC conversion that hard and how much does that cost to do? How about doing a B20 maybe VTEC swap is that worth it? Sorry for all the questions guys I don't know much about B series swaps. I have a 90 Accord with a H22 and there isn't much you have to do with that kinda swap.
I used to have an LS swap in my 1988 Civic STD. The motor was a 1995 motor, which is supposedly the 'better' LS motor. The setup was basically stock, with just bolt-ons. I was never really happy with that motor. It had only marginally more torque than my B16A CRX but not nearly as much top end scream. It ran about .5 seconds slower in the quarter mile. I have since upgraded to a B20Z longblock. And I can honestly say that this motor is FAR better than the LS. Do NOT go LS without SERIOUSLY considering the B20.

i built my lsvtec from the ground up and with no short cuts. i also had the help of other HONDA-TECH members to give a little advise here and there. but overall its a basic installation with minor servicing such as honing or boring, balancing, or heat treated the crank and etc.. but it cost me a good 2500. it was kind of cheap for the hp and torque that i wanted never had the chance to dyno the car but i can tell you it killed most GSR civics out there easily. and it was all stock. i used b16a pistons with port polish heads and a skunk2 intake manifold and was timed 13.6. its fast as hell. but then again you have to consider the down fall of this swap. of course its cheap and powerful, but i ran into a lot of problems. lots of high maintaince, oil leakeage, timing off, and more. if you got the time and money to deal with this kind of motor. go for it you'll be suprise.
