Default How much weight difference would sell you on an ugly wheel?

Hi Im from honda-tech sponsor 6061forged.com. We have several crazy light weight designs that we have shelved because of their looks. We were wondering are their people our there that would buy an odd (4 spoke or 3 spoke) looking wheel if it was insanely light (17"x7" at 11lbs)? At what point does a wheel become light enough and looks come into consideration? Would you sacrifice looks to save 2lbs per wheel? Thanks alot guys! were always looking to the public to help shape our product choices. Your feedback directly caused us to create the 18" version of our wheels.

Some ppl may buy odd looking wheels even if they were heavier, hahaha.

Why not post a couple pics? This seems like a case-by-case basis.

More likely than not, the guys who are willing to sacrifice lookings for a couple lbs will probably be more interested in obtaining an even lighter 15" or 14" rim - that would be a deadly combination.

I would run the ugliest wheel (I usually like ugly wheels anyway!) you could come up with--it it was light, and strong enough. But I would NEVER run a 17" on a small honda--make a light 13, 14, 15 --and I am sure a lot of people would be interested even if it was REALLY ugly....

What he said, I could care less about 17 and 18 inch wheels that are 'light' but show me some 14, 15 or 16 inch and it might be a posibility.

And yea def post up some pics

Hey guys, Thanks for all the feedback! Ok we have thought of building a 15"x7" wheel but our manufacturing process is so expensive we would not be able to sell it for less than $239ea. All of our wheels are fully forged (heat and preassure) and tested so strength would not be an issue. It would only be around 10lbs. Would people buy it? Let us know!

I'm actually looking for some decent looking forged wheels for my ITR. I'm trying to find a set that's lighter than Rota Slips 13lbs. but not cost an arm, leg and a ********. I don't care TOO much about the design, I care about weight and price.

Our 16" wheel would easily beat the Rota Slips, they would be around 11.5 -12lbs mabye less. But would cost $250ea. Is that too much for a 16in wheel? They would be fully tested and quite strong (rotary forged)

Default Warranty Update

Hey everyone, in response to people's lack of trust in the strength of our wheels due to the fact that we are new (we would be skeptical to). We have changed our warrenty. From now on.
If a wheel is bent we will repair it for $60 plus shipping. If it cannot be repaired we will replace it at no additional charge*
Tell me what you think about this? Does it help?

*only one full replacement wheel per set of four wheels purchased.

I'd like it better if you got rid of the last line. If I get run off the road and hit a small hole, I should hope that they wouldn't bend but if they did, there would be a strength issue.

If you got run off the road, you should be going after that person, not the people who make parts for your car.

How long till you are going to have these on the market and are they going to be 16"?

$250 per wheel forged is an excellent price. That's about what most brand name cast wheels sell for. I'm a skeptic, so I'll believe it when I see pics

Are these wheels going to come with standard finishes like bronze, gunmetal, etc?

Default Re: questions

They shouldn't bend on a small bump, we actually have not been able to bend one of our 17" wheels yet during the (quite fun) real world portion of our testing. (we use an accord due to the heavier weight on 35 series tires, remove the bumpers and side skirts and basically bash the crap out of them on train tracks, pot holes, curbs, even a possum). We do not expect to see very many wheels come back, and as long as people don't abuse the warranty we will probably remove the one replacement per set exception since we doubt many people could actually bend the hub of one of our wheels. (you would like have catch like 5 or 6 ft of air, or perhaps hit a curb head on at 80mph. Regardless if you hub bend one of our wheels your car is probably pretty jacked, and we want to prevent people from getting a free set of new wheels when they total their car.

We could have the wheels on the market in as little as a month, They would be available in all finishes, but possibly we may do a limited "release" edition in black chrome only initially. (Black chrome is not like real chrome, we do not and will never sell chrome wheels, the process weakens the wheel and they can never be completely "True", black chrome is like powdercoating)

If you make them in 16x7 5x114.3 then I'll pick up a set in bronze. You should post some pictures of the current designs.

Agreed, lets see some 15x7 and 16x7 lightweight wheels (I suppose 14 and 13 for the civic guys). Not sure if I would trust the strength of a 3 spoke, not necessarily from bending but just deflecting under cornering and braking.

As for looks, the 5 split spoke, and 5 flat spoke you currently have look good, though maybe a little "ricey".

Hey guys i just got done talking to the engineer, and I was mistaken. The 16" wheel is 16"x8" (mabye to wide for honda's?) but we can build a 15"x7" which would be crazy light. The art guy is working on the design right now so hopefully I can get you a rendering later today. So What do you think 15"x7" or 16"x8" you guys decide.

A 16x8 would be too wide for me to race with, but others might find it useful. However, do they even make a tire that would fit a smaller Honda on that size of wheel? Even a 225/40-16 should fit on a 7.5" wheel, and I don't think you can get even more rubber to not rub. The Accords might have more tire selection though.

15x7 sounds good. Whats the offset and lug pattern?

It would be a 42-44mm offset with any lug pattern (every wheel is custom) and hub-centric
