Default Should I buy this car?

Found an 88 Integra pretty cheap, needs a head gasket---is it worth it? I think I could do it myself, even if it takes all weekend or something. He was saying a shop quoted him like 1500-2000 bucks, seems too high to me, or is that about right? If anybody has any experience with this, please let me know what you think. If it's gonna be that expensive, maybe I should consider an engine swap......

The shop quoted him $1500-2000 for what? The car for sale? Or the cost of repairing the headgasket? A headgasket replacement should not be that much.

If you can do it yourself, and you think the car is worth it, go for it. However, it might be easier/cheaper to go with a newer B-series swap, such as an LS, etc. How many miles are on that 88? It's almost 20 years old, ya know?

Yeah---1500-2000 just for the headgasket replaced, way too expensive. The rest of the car is in great shape though, so I hate to pass on it if I can make something work, even if it takes an engine swap. What about like a D16 swap, or something like that--how hard would that be?

Well, how much do you wanna spend? You can get non-Vtec B-series motors for like $800 or less full swap. Not sure on the whole cable to hydro switchover (I've never worked with older Hondas before), but I don't see a problem if the entire thing is being swapped.
