Default Cruise control has a mind of its own!

I have a 97 LX sendan and my cruise is wacky. Since I purchased the car, I haven't driven much on the Hwy until recently and found that my cruise acts sporatic.

When I engage the cruise, then press and release the set button, the speed will climb another ten or so miles before settling. Also, when I try to reduce the speed by pressing the coast, as soon as I release the car will speed back up and settle 5-10 miles above where it was orignally set. My last car was a 99 si and the cruise was super tight and responsive on it. Any changes in cruise between 99 and 97. I want to fix this before I throw the turbo on.

My 92 Accord did that. I just learned its tricks and lived with it. There's nothing really wrong with it, just how it is I think.

We just bought a 99 LX a couple of weeks ago and I noticed ours does this a bit. Not as bad as what you described, but definitely off. My Si cruise works perfectly.

Is your 97 an automatic by chance? Ours is and I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Anybody else? I have never driven a cruise-control car, Honda or otherwise, that does this. I am pretty sure it isn't normal.

Have you checked the throttle and actuator cables? Also a restriction in the actuator vent hose can cause problems like you describe. Does the hose have a spider web in it?
