2001 600 F4i : Advice
Well tonight I am going to look at a 2001 F4i with 13K miles. This will be my first bike and I am just wondering what I need to look for or pay particular attention to? I know it was dropped in some gravel and just has minor plastic scratches. Nothing major. He says all it needs is a routine oil change, has new tires, two brothers pipe, and smoked windscreen. I am excited about it but I just wanna make sure I don't end up with a bad bike. BTW, he's asking $4500. Thanks in advance for the help/advice
Honestly if u have the cash and u have the time to keep lookin, search for the right deal... esp if ur willing to travel a few hours and even rent a trailer to get one. I was huntin around for 2 months, was gonna drive from PA to VA to look at one then stumbled across a hell of a local deal w/ 6600 miles and TONS of extras with it for $4700 and im the 2nd owner, **** i had to payoff honda, and it was right here 20 mins away from where i live, so my patience paid of extremely well...
Goodluck in ur searches!

I'm curious about used bikes too...
I don't know if this is jacking your thread or aiding to it, but:
What are everyones views on used bikes from private parties? In opposition to either a dealer-used or new. It just seems very possible to get a bad bike to me, as there isn't a "carfax" system for bikes...

I bought a used bike before but the important thing to do is to take it to the local motorcycle shop and just have them do a check on it. Plan to do that with the seller so they know what is up. It usually only costs like $5 for the shop to check through it.
Another problem you experience if a bike has been down is if it rides straight. It is a good thing to check on.

Well thanks for all of your advice. I went and looked at the bike and it was pretty much a no brainer. It was kinda tore up. It just looked very used. There was more little things and scratched than he mentioned. I found a 2004 GSXR 600 with 5800 miles and went to look at that the same day. This bike was extremely clean and I couldn't pass it up. So I own it now
I have been riding all weekend and I love it!

The gixxer was a little more but worth it to me. It was $6200 w/ helmet, jacket, gloves, cover, and a bunch of little stuff.
