Default Question about lower heat shield of catalytic converter.

Is it really that important to have on?

Yesterday i was driving around and i noticed a really annoying rattle coming from under the car. Well i jacked the car up last night and found out that the 2 back ears that bolt the lower heat shield (side facing the ground) had completely rusted off. Well for now i took it off (but left the top shield bolted on) intending to get a new one next week but i have to drive a few hundred miles this weekend and I was wondering if ill do any damage. TIA.

Its okay to leave that one off permanently, but you can get a new one if u like it to be like original.
Its just a heat shield and it is facing mother earth. she would be tolerant enough.

however fasten the bolts to keep the upper shield from rattling.

have fun

No need to have it on. I took mine off when I changed my b-pipe, and never put it back on.
