Ls/Vtec timing belt cover

Ls/Vtec timing belt cover
I was wondering if it was a really bad thing to run an engine with no timing belt covers. I would prefer to atleast run the lower one if i can fine one. but because i have an ls/vtec will the two (top and bottom) line up? or should i just run the lower one?
