DIY Cold Air Intake Heat wrap
OK here it is... i was bored this morning and with the 5 bucks i found in the couch
i went to my local fabric shop and bought a space blanket and some quilt batting.
Objective:
To keep the cold air from the outside of the car the same temp. instead of heating it up to the temp under the hood.
Materials:
1. Space Blanket
2. 1/8" quilt batting
3. Metal ducting tape
How I did it:
1. start off by finding out how much you will need to cover the intake tube... measure the length and the circumfrance and add an inch to each measurement.
2. then cut the appropriate amount of blanket and the appropriate amount of batting
3. with the 2 rectangles cut, lay them ontop of eachother and take the metal tape and tape the batting to the blanket.
4. now that that is done go out to the car and wrap the tube like a hotdog...
5. tabe one end together and slide it down and about every 4 inches place a peice of tape and keep sliding.
6. once that is done and it is all wrapped, go along the seam and tape the seam up.
THATS IT YOU ARE DONE.
Results:
I didnt notice a differance, so i put some technology into place to help me out. i took off the wrap and hooked some wires up ti the IAT sensor and read off the readings as i went down the raod, then i got home and put back on the heat sheild and drove it again and the readings were way lower...like 5-10 degrees lower on average. way worth it in my opinion!

Um...ok...
Um...ok...
back when i had my CAI this one was of my best mods ..doent make it faster but keeps it the same speed in all weather....after burning my hand on my so called cold air intake i decided that it wasnt very cold air gettting in there
i did a simaler mod and after a long drive on a hot summer day i felt under the NASA **** (my word BTW PATEND PENDNG lol) the cai was ice cold on account of the moving air helps it stay cool

uhm...correct me if im wrong, but dont you WANT the gas to expand thus creating a better mixture of air and N20, considering it is an oxidizing gas....?

What is the IAT sensor? what was 5-10 degrees lower?
i may consider doing this. for safty reasons is quilt batting fire resistant? i dont want my car on fire.

well i was told that the IAT was the intake air temperature sensor. the 5-10 degree differance was in the air being sucked into the throttle body ant the IAT sensor hole. And to tell you the truth, i dont know if it is fire resistant, but the under the hood doesnt get to hot, like paper wont catch fire or anything, plus it is next to the cold air intake side of the heat sheild. So I am personally not to worried about it catching fire or getting to hot... but i dotn worry much... if you want more pics let me know!

LOL
LOL
i did the same **** till i was working on my motor and burnt my hand on my intake manifold...so its a waist of time unless you get a hondata spacer for yout intake manifold and wrap your intake manifold with that **** too. yea you temp sensor will read lower but your still getting hot air in the motor after its heating up in the manifold. so congradulations on adding 5 pounds to your car with that blanket...
I vote for keeping it WIDE OPEN and letting the engine suck it in faster then it can get hot.
j/p nice mod but looks a little ghetto
I am thinking of doing the same thing with heat wrap for a tighter cleaner look
