built b16 or ls vtec
i just cracked my b16 block and i can get a b16 shortblock for $500 shipped or a complete ls motor for $550. I only have enough money to build a stock ls vtec.. not going to be able to build the bottom except maybe rod bolts... should i do that and spend a total of $1200 or... get that b16 shortblock and build it? if so what would u sugest i should work on with $500
I would go ls/vtec. U can use the b16 pistons out of the b16 block. Then sell all the left over parts off the b16 block for ARP rod bolts and ITR oil pump
hmmm
buy the b16 shortblock for 500. take the 50 you saved, add 20 and get omnis dvd. build the **** out the the b16. laugh at lsvtec people making 170/128 when youre making 200/125.

**** an ls/vtec...b16 all motor...knowing good an well you would never have the ls/vtec running at its full strength...too much money you would go though...over all i dont think its worth it
Yeah ud have less reliability worries w/ the b16 (maybe reliability isn't the right word but u know what I mean). Yeah people w/ls/vtec will just say "it'll be as reliable as u build it" but how much that would cost would b critical. I think ls/v sounds awesome, I'd like to do one myself, but a high-revving tq-less wonder would b a force if built right.
btw: I say **** stroking it stick w/stock stroke and bore (except maybe .25 over for some os pistons). A real b16, not this tech43 whatever the **** my motor takes over 8 months deal.

I just put my B16 in last night, and you don't know how good it is to hear you say that. Since I got my engine I have been reading more and more threads that turn into B16 vs whatever, and no one ever stands up for the B16. I don't necessarily know how to stand up for her, but you are giving me fuel for the fire. Rock on... my only focus now is to find out which way to build it best for me. I intend to turbo at about 7psi in about 4 months and I am thinking about getting headbolts and dual valve springs. I heard a 3mm headgap is also a good thing to consider but I don't know...
i would go with the lsvtec. i have a b16 hatch it pulls but it dont get me wrong. but my brothers lsvtec hatch pulls even harder. but its up to u. do u want to revn high or stick between 7.5 to 8 rpms. its all about personal preferance.
B16 will make good power if you spend the money to build it and in the right places; for eg. the head. The LSV is will work out to be "best bang for buck" but if you don't do it right, it won't be reliable. Seeing that you say you don't have a lot to spend. . .I would say go B16.
what year is the ls motor? i ran my (stock) ls/vtec to 8200 all day every day with out any problems. there are several people on this board that can vouch for this. it pulls hard alot harder then the b16s around here. so i say if the block isnt to old just use the stock block untill you get more money to beef up the bottom end. this is exactly what i did belive me you will not be disapointed
take the b16 pistons from your motor, put then into the ls block, and throw in a set of rod bolts. Viola, a high(er) compression ls/vtec, should be reliable, and have more displacement than the b16.
This will make more power and u will thank me after u get it running and its melting the tires off (atleast it will seem like it compared to the b16).
