Compairing Sizes 205/55/15 vrs 225/50/15
Here are the specs I got from tirerack.com ... Looking for tires to place on Rota Grid 15x6.5 Rim (prelude gen4)
205/55/15 (oem size)
Section Width 8.4"
Rim Size 6.5"
Overall Diameter 23.9"
Revs Per Mile 870
225/50/15
Section Width 9.2"
Rim Size 7"
Overall Diameter 23.9"
Revs Per Mile 870
It is stated that the overall diameter of both of these tires sizes equals the same. So the only difference between the too should be the 225/50/15 is aprox. 7/8" wider than the 205/55/15. Correct me if I am wrong.
The 225/50/15 Rim width states 7". How will fitment onto a 6.5" rim be effected. Total Rim width range for the 225/50/15 is 6"-8". However I am a bit confused it shows the total range of Rim width, then gives a specific Rim width of 7".
Also could revs per mile be explained a bit. I see that both of these tire sizes have the same rating so i am assuming overall size is the same. Correct me if wrong.
However, I am currently running a 205/40/17 (which is too small i know) and its RPM rating is 886. So i am assuming that it takes more revolutions of this tire size to make a mile? Here is a dumb question? Would that through off my odometer for the worse ??? Ok, thanks in advance for anyones info here

Right. The 225 is wider, hence the larger section width.

It'll suck. The tire will get cupped over the too narrow wheel; you need to run at least a 7" tire for a 225. 215 would be OK on a 6.5 but not a 225.

Your odometer is seperate, the RPM will affect your speedorating.

The difference is the section width and the weight. Though it's not "recommended", you could mount the 225/50/15 to a 6.5" rim no problem. Whether it's beneficial or not is up for debate, but with a 6.5" rim you won't see a significant increase in contact patch with the 225. The shape will be altered, but the overall area will remain close to the 205. Grip increase depends on a lot of factors, and i'm not sure i could really conjecture which tire size would be better for you in terms of grip/performance.
Revolutions per mile is simply 1 mile/circumference of the tire. It makes sense that if the the 205/55 and 225/50 have the same circumference, they'll have the same rev per mile figure. Your current 205/40/17's make more revolutions per mile because the circumference of that tire is smaller than the 2 you've mentioned. Since the OEM tire diameter is 23.9 IIRC, the speedo will be accurate with the 225/50 or 205/55, vs. reading too fast like it was with the 205/40/17's.

thanks for the info.
while i am here ... search offerd no info,
could someone direct me towards a link with offset info for a 4th gen and how buying different size rims and tires might effect the oem specs... thanks

not sure what you mean by affecting OEM specs...
