Default ECU -- Type of data stored / Amount of data stored?

I'm curious what type of data is stored in the ECU(besides error codes), and how long its kept.

Thanks

Umm no it doesn't. It has the "capability" to datalog, however the ECU in itself doesn't store anything other than a few error codes which you can easily erase by disconnecting the power.

The ECU doesn't datalog at all. Provided you have the correct hardware and software, you can USE the ecu to datalog, but it in itself can not datalog anything.

My curiosity is piqued. Why the interest in what data the ECU might or might not store?

that crazy kid probably has a warranty claim and doesn't want to get caught having abused his car.

Your girlfriend can hook up to it and it will even tell her the weight of the previous 10 passengers and thier gender.

There's also the GPS tracker in it you have to watch out for.

But really, it remembers if it's passed its tests on various emissions sensors, and any codes that have happened.

I don't think it remembers peak speed, peak engine RPM, anything like that.
