Default lsd question

when the car is up in the air and in gear, if i roll one of the front tires, which way should the other tire roll? in the same direction? opposite direction? I was just curious as to if my LSD was working properly... both tires seem to be spinning good in the burn out box @ the track though.

Put it in 1st gear, spin one tire, the other one should spin the opposite way.

Uh, that will happen with ANY differential, because that's what they do by design. The whole point of an LSD is that they don't want to turn in different directions. A better test might be to try to turn one wheel in one direction and hold the other one still with the transmission in neutral. Or turn one wheel one way and turn the other wheel the opposite way.

"One problem with an automotive differential is that if one wheel is held stationary, the counterpart wheel turns at twice its normal speed . . . This is the reason for a device known as a "limited slip differential" or "traction control". "

My transmission has an open differential. If I put it in the air, select 1st gear and spin one wheel, the other wheel spins the opposide direction. I don't really understand what this test accomplishes in determining if you have an LSD or not...

spinning the tires in neutral would not tell me anything... in order for the differential to work it would have to be in gear...

please enlighten me if im wrong....

although i just went out and did it the old fashion way.... had my buddy sit out in the street while i warmed up the drag rads... left two black marks for several feet so i guess everything is in working order....

and on another note... i finally got my damn vibration fixed that i was having at 60 mph and above and only when acclerating.... threw a new axl in on the driver side and that was all she wrote..... im a pretty happy camper right now

excuse my rant... feels good to have a solid running car again
