Default O2 sensor extending

Probably a stupid obvious question, but when you guys extend you wires are u guys running it on the outside along the exhaust? it seems like it would melt the harness if it were down there like that and is their anyway to get it in the hole like the EX o2 sensors.

umm i dont really understand the question

but, you can extended the wires, keep them away from the exhaust because they will melt. and make sure you loom them or something so they dont get cut by heat shields.

If you ground it out you will blow an ECU fuse.

Are you trying to extend them so they will reach a test pipe or something?

oh nope switch from dx to ex exhaust. i mean extending the secondary o2 sensor it seems like theres no where to keep the harness away from the exhaust unless i make the wires really tight so it pulls or ziptie it to the shift linkage. i just want to see what other people did.

What year Civic do you got? I am thinking of doing this to my 97 dx. So all you have to do is extend the o2 wires and get slap on the Ex exhaust manifold and cat? Sorry but I am not a D-series guy as you can tell.

i was thinking of doing the simulator too
yea u just throw on the exhaust if u use a 96-98 ex exhaust u only have to extend the seconday but if u use a 99-00 exhaust u have to extend both.
i ended up extending it and ziptying it to the shift linkage which i dont think is too secure... so still looking for a better place to put it if anybody has suggestions

I have a 97 dx that i put an ex exhaust on and what I did was measure how far the o2 sensor wire can reach, which was just in front of my firewall. Then I took my scalpel and CAREFULLY I cut open the plastic wire conduit that all the wires were in and separated the four O2 wires, without cutting them, toward the firewall, toward the secondary O2 sensor plug. I made sure that the both set of wires were not to taught and then I zip tide them to the back engine mount. I haven't had any problems with them touching the exhaust or melting.

Hopefully I have explained this well enough if you need I can provide a picture, but I wont be able to post it until tomorrow.

Hey,
If your scared to cut the o2 senor cable then hit me up and i'll talk to someone I know to see if he can hook you up with one. Im not sure if he'll sell you one but its worth a try before you cut the wires. So pm me and ill see what I can do.

edit: I rather extend the extension harness rather then cutting into your cars harness!

* I want to see if this guy will let me sell them as a 3rd person. If so then ill post it up!

You can extend them, just remember to keep the wires the same gauge. Extending them with larger gauge isn't the best option due to the loss in current from a small wire to a large wire and back to a small(or the other way around). Your ECU will more than likely notice small losses like that. Now with that being said keep the extensions to a minimum!

what gauge do you recommend the wires look like a 18 gauge and still no ones answered where they mounted the secondary o2 sensor when they extended it!

Here is the pics that I talked about:

This picture shows the secondary O2 sensor plug that should be located up front that I pulled the four wires out from the original plastic housing, back to the firewall and re-wraped in plastic housing with electrical tape.

picture shows where I mounted the the plugs with the zip tie on the rear engine mount.

picture shows the secondary O2 sensor plug and wires going back the the catalytic converter

I tried to put the pic in order looking from the passenger side and going back to the firewall. Sorry that the picture are big still learning.

18, 20 or 22 gauge. What ever size it is. I don't know off hand.
