Default Acceleration Test from Road & Track

I took two shots of the results page. I didn't want to make them too big so I'll list the cars and bike that competed to make things a little easier for you.

Lola Champ Car
Hennessey Viper
Saleen S7 Twin Turbo
MV Agusta Tamburini
Pontiac-Riley DP
Jaguar XKR Trans-Am
Ruf CTR Yellow Bird
Ruf R Turbo
Ford GT
HPA Audi TT
Vortech Mustang GT
Lamborgini Murcielago
Dodge Viper SRT-10
Chevrolet Corvette

Click to make them larger:

It was an acceleration test from a dead stop to one mile and I think the MV showed just what kind of league bikes are actually in

I'm guessing the slicks on the race cars hook up better than the tires on the street cars, even if they aren't drag slicks. Does it say if the race cars were geared specially for max. acceleration?

It's not really about the cars hooking up but they do list all the tires used on the cars. The S7 and Viper were both using Michelin Pilot Sport 2's.

I havn't read the whole article yet so I'm not sure if they messed around with the gearing at all.

Why do you say that? Wouldn't the launch would directly affect the times? Maybe less so for the longer distances? I asked about the gearing because Car and Driver once tested two ALMS cars that were in the same class but were set up with optimal gearing for two different tracks, and their acceleration times and top speed varied a whole lot. That's just one variable though...
