I just bought the holley thundermuff exhaust system for my 98 GSR. It claims to be a 2.5" exhaust system. When I put my tape measure up to the inner diamter, the reeading is 2 1/4" When measuring the outer diameter it reads 2.5" I am upgrading my cat and header. I wanted to keep the same consistancy with diameters throughout the system. I ordered a 2.5' cat and a 2.5" collector header. Do I have to send these items back and get 2.25" or is that how they measure the exhaust. I sound like a total noob but please help. Heres the link.

I'm pretty sure they go with the outer diameter when it comes to measuring exhaust piping.
If you paid for a 2.5 inch exhaust, its a 2.5 inch exhaust by everyones standards.

Yeah its the same.
Yeah its the same.
yo that converter isnt really a converter. It looks like a converter but its a straight pipe all the way through. You gon be smelling gas when u gun it and u not gon pass emissions (well at least in ny you wont) Should have gone with a carsound

Do you have any proof of this?
What you're talking about is a test pipe. If that is indeed a test pipe that appears to be a catalytic converter, then I'm buying one. Unless you're in a state with strict emissions testing, then you don't need to worry about it. Sure test pipes are louder, but alot of people exaggerate on the fuel smell. Maybe if you are running extremely rich you would smell fuel, but when my friend had a test pipe, you couldn't smell fuel at all. You'll also make a couple more horsepower with a test pipe, not that 1-2 horsepower is going to make that much of a difference, but if you were to go boost in the future, the difference between the cat and test pipe would be alot greater.
Hell I would have gone with the test pipe to begin with.
*puts on flame suit for all the test pipe haters*

that is a resonated test pipe.
and yes, exhausts are measured in outer diameters.

instead of wasting money on a "piece," why didnt' you just save a little more and get a better one?

Ummm to tell you the truth. And im not trying to be a dick or anything. I just didnt care to spend 150 on a cat. I personally wanted a louder exhaust. Also the exhaust I got which was the holley, I got for an amazing price so I rather use 2.5" all the way back. In your opinions is it going to sound ricey? Ill let you know how it turns out when I do it next weekend. Also, I have to pass emissions this month so next time I do will be in 2 years, so im cool with that.

I work for the state, shouldnt really be a problem. But thanks for the heads up. Im now wondering if its gonna sound tinny. I looked up the holley exhaust and people said it had a deep throaty sound too it.

hahaha yeah you dont even have to install it, automatically your car recognizes that you have this item and its like well I just added 8 horses to the flyat the wheels. Ive got a few stickers to throw on my car too, I heard they add about 3 horses for each at the fly, and I got a huge Rice wing too. Lots of power added there.
