life insurance
anyone have it? since my accident, i've been thinking of getting it, mainly as something to help the burden of my family, in the event of me getting in a fatal accident, or anything else that may be thrown my way.
i found an estimate calculator .. asked my DOB, heighth, weight, if i smoke, if i've ever been treated for depression, high blood pressure, drug/alcohol abuse, etc, and if an immediate family member has ever died before the age of 60 for heart attack, stroke, heart dieseas, etc.
for me .. i'm 19, 5'11, 140lbs, a smoker, NO and NO to the last 2 questions. for a 100,000 policy for 15 years (not sure what that means), the lowest was $14.95 per month, and the highest was $27.56.
for the same info, but a non smoker, the cheapest was $7.74 and the highest was $9.48.
for my actual information with being a smoker, and bumping it up to a $300,000 policy for 15 years, it was to $31.51 being the cheapest up to $58.19.
for the same $300,00 but not being a smoker, it was $12.96 to $24.32.
i threw out all these numbers to show the differences, and also give those people that might be interested some figures to think about.
looking at it .. this can only be a worthwhile thing to have. if my time is cut short ... on top of the extreme anguish and sadness my family would be going through, i just can't imagine havings thousands upon thousands of dollars of bills thrown at them, and burial costs and a funeral and all that.
so i dunno what answers im looking for you guys now. is it a scam? for the price, i can't see why not to have it.
anyways .. if it does what it says it does, check it. heres a link to the calculator, and more info.

It's all about statistics and risk. If the odds of them having to pay a claim are higher then they are going to pass on the burden of that cost to you.
Smoker eh. Hear about Peter Jennings? Save the 2-3 dollars per pack and invest in gas for the bike. Trust me your lungs and family will thank you. There is nothing worse than watching someone wither away from lung cancer that spread and caused brain tumors. Watching someone go from coherent to infant like status in a matter of weeks before literally melting away is a life changing experience.
Not that I smoke nor would I, but after seeing that I will never consider it......
Oh yeah back to the topic at hand. I have a policy through work for a few bucks a month and it is like a $500,000 death/dismemberment plan.

It likely means the coverage lasts for 15 years (think 1 year of bike insurance).
Stop smoking and get life insurance.
Through work plus supplemental I've got about $150k in coverage and that'll just about pay off my mortgage for my wife should I die.

I work in the insurance industry and have dealt with life insurance policies and investments.
If you're lookin at term life, that means you better die within those 15 years. If you live past the 15 years, you won't be able to cash out and the money you put towards premium expense is lost.
You're better off buying a whole life policy until you're 65 or you die. If you live past the expiration, you get the cash. If you die under certain circumstances, your beneficiaries get the cash.
I personally have a whole life, and my entire family has life insurance. You're better off getting one while you're young than to wait till you're a bit older with more chances of getting sick. There's different options out there that are just term life, whole life, variable universal life, and there's a new one out on the market that's an investment tied into it..
