no experience can I fab all the piping for my t'charger setup?
I do not have any experience with welding, and I am not willing to pay. I dont care about making pretty welds I just want something that will work. I want to fab my charge pipes, ic, and full exhaust. Hardwork doesnt scare me, but how hard will this project be w/out experience???
I don't have ANY friends...... Explain expensive??? It has to be cheaper paying retail prices... Welding can't be that hard.....
Look at spenting maybe 350-400 on a decent welder, and then supplies and materials to actually make your items. Picking up welding isn't that hard to get something that worksbut, getting it to look good and be a very strong weld can take lots of practice.

cuz then he would never learn? I dunno.

I had about an hour total time on the trigger of a $200 gas welder before i went to tackle making my charge piping. The piping cost me like $80 for everything i think, then couplers and t bolt clamps on top of that. It was pretty easy and only took me a few hours one night. I say go for it...

Yeah. Im going to get this instructor at the local tech school to give me a lesson, then I'm going to tackle it myself. I have to learn somewhere.

Ive had this thought about doing my own pipe when I go turbo but always thought that it would be pretty hard on getting all of them the right size and bends etc...
Any advice on someone who knows how to weld? Making the right sized piping isnt that hard is it?

yo man, that is one of the threads that gave me inspiration to tackle this project with my own ghetto DIY flavor. If this sunglassed towelhead could do it, why cant I. I just want my welds to be leak proof. I just got through reading a thread form this guy who builds bike frames for a living . He says that pretty welds arent worth a ****, just make sure it works. I dont care I have splatter and herpes like lesions on pipes, if it works IM happy. Hell, from using the search function there are ppl using 80 dollar flux core welders with success, ppl with limited experience making full exhausts. Time is my friend
get a ****** helmet...or be an idiot like myself and be blind for a weekend w/ flashburns in your eyes...at least you get a couple perks....but it def was one of the worst weekends of my life...

Not at all. I once worked at a shop that would get behind on work and they'd just go hire a few guys from McDonalds to work evenings for a few nights.
There's a reason that welding pays quite a bit more than fast food. It is a SKILL or TRADE....not just labor. Anybody can weld, but that doesn't make them a welder. I can count. Does that make me an acCOUNTant?

are you saying that you want to buy a welder to do this with? cause you can get pre made IC pipes... i know you want to do it yourself but unless you have a need for a welder for other projects (who doesnt) getting everything you need to get going will cost you quite a bit.

Point taken, but what a weak analogy. It should read, I understand excel, use quicken, and have a working knowledge of oracle financial. Does that make me an accountant.
Truthful, I could give a **** about being a "welder", for this project I just want to do most of the work myself. How else does one learn, but by doing.

If there is a will, there is a way. I've always wanted to learn how to weld, so the price of equipment I wont even factor into my build. I've put off learning for the last 4yrs or so. ITS time to bust my welding cherry.
I say just do it and post up the results.
I plan on doing the same exact thing.
Engloid - How'd you first learn how to weld? I think you post on almost all of the welding forums I've ever been to and was just wondering what your background is.

^^link to engloids work, very nice BTW^^
Im closing up my shop and moving it back to the garage. Very few people care about quality work they just want it cheap. If you give it to them cheap and something goes wrong then the first thing that happens is alot of bad mouthing on the net. I think everyone should have there own welders and do there own work. That way when it fails to do its job then they can only blame themselves.
The thing I like to most is when you have a guy that owns a supra, a restaurant, a car lot and probably a few other things but wants to complain to me about charging $35 to install a bov flange. I probably broke even with what it cost to purge the stainless tubing and the cost of materials.
I say weld away, hell get a couple of battiers, jumper cables and metal clothes hanger and you have yourself a welder.

Building DIY junk is definitely cheaper the buying from a shop.
Building a quality DIY piece WILL cost you more then buying a good part from a shop, considering you have to purchase the equipment and quality materials are not cheap. But if you're willing to spend the money, having the tools and knowledge to build your own quality parts is worth the expense.

Interesting thread....
What do you think about this 120amp welder from harborfreight.com for $200? Do you think it would be good for welding IC pipes?
