Default NOOB Question: What type of engine is LS/VTEC?

I tried searching but only found results associating ls/vtec with something else, like turbo. But what is LS/VTEC? does it have anything to do with the integra ls?

I know it sstupid question, but I dont' know much about engine.

SEARCH!!! And when you do, choose "Archived"... And yeah...
It's a non-vtec block with a vtec head on it... Why do you want to know? You're not going to try it are you? At least not anytime soon right?

Don't until you have read up on it... And check out the FAQ in this forum... It has tons of links to really, really good information on the ls/vtec and others...

So basically the only thing separating the integra LS/RS/GS from the GSR and Type R is that the GSR and ITR has a vtec block and head?

SO if a person want to have VTEC in their non-vtec integra, all they need is a vtec head?

Ok... It's not that simple... you will need many other parts for it to be done correctly... the minimal items you will need are this... vtec head, vtec dizzy, vtec intake manifold, vtec controller, vtec ecu(or rpm activated switch), vtec oil line kit, a few other small things... Or, you could go into the Integra FAQ and look at it... and know everything there is to know about it...

its not simple at all if you want to keep up with honda quality. But ya, youve got a long way to go noobie...You must use the search, just read and read and read, you will learn a lot faster than asking "what type of engine is ls/vtec...

And to answer your question, its a b18b or b18a block (1990-2000 integra) with a vtec head, either from a b16(civic) or b18c(gsr or ITR) vtec head. However, usually a complete rebuild of the motor will be in the course of action when doing this job. Its not required, but if you want the full potential.

Well, we all have to start somewhere. I'm only 19 with my first honda (GSR) and really wanted to learn about engine and stuff. But advice taken.

its cool dude, im building a ls v/tec motor right now. you need a good bit of ****. first you need a v/tec head b16,gsr,itr. then you need a vtec ecu, vtec dizzy. You'll need to find a Ls/vtec conversion kit Goldoneagle makes a good one. You'll need a new oil pump, water pump, timing belt. and theres alot more to it

And get it done by a pro its alot better you dont have to worry about ****** anythin up, and hopfully if he makes a mistake he will fix it free of charge

Have fun learnin about Honda motors you have a really long way to go and so do I

Peace!!!
