OT: Buying a high mileage Honda/Acura?
I have been looking at getting a second car, but want something used just to avoid the huge depreciation losses.
I have been looking a the Acura TL Type-S, 2000 - 2003 models used. I see a lot with high mileage, like 100K - 150K.
So my question is, should I be concerned with a car with that high of mileage, specifically a Honda/Acura, more specifically, a TL? I mean the R has been great for reliability, but I have yet to hit such a extreme numbers in mileage. I am comfortable working on the car is things need to be done, but I don't want to be stuck with a maintenance nightmare.
By the way, here is the reliability data from Consumer Reports:

I sold my GSR back in March and it had 130k miles and still running strong
I wouldn't have gotten rid of it if I could've afforded keeping it and buying my WRX.

Yeah, I normally agree, I just look at the Consumer Reports data, and it looks like the transmission has problems. Not something fun to deal with.
Does anyone know about problems with the TL transmission for 2000 - 2003?

I think there were issues with the TL/CL-S auto-transmissions. Seem to recall quite a few people getting their's replaced by Acura. Since 100K+ miles would put you out of warranty, you'd be SOL if it went out.
FYI, they were made by GM(I think).

They're warrantied for 7yr/100K and there's a TSB on all the pre-2003 autos to prevent second gear overheating (the failure point). I think they've identified and solved the problem now, so if you get one with the TSB fix or one that's been replaced recently you should be okay.

That is if it's been maintained.

LOL, I used to say that.
Stay away from the TLs, worse transmission in American Honda history.

Yeah, we dealers love them, $$$ for warranties! But for the consumer, its a headache.
Don't buy it, if you do, get the 6-speed instead.
