Do I need this peice of rubber?

I've noticed that some Civics come with this peice and some don't. I'm going to be painting my car soon, and this peice takes away from my cars cleanliness. It's already starting to come off.

It's the rubber peice that is on the edge of the door and next to the rear 1/4 panel. Help!

pull it out, it's there so you dont bump it too hard to the car next to you.

that is NOT OEM

Saves you from scratching your paint when opening your door and hitting someone's car but more or less saves their car more.

yeah it saves their car, but the adhesive used...
