Default Valve Adjustment gone wrong?

Hi Guys,

Just did a valve adjustment and now after driving at times I can smell slight petrol (or could it be oil) fumes through the air vents. I can only smell it after accel in first gear from stationary. So I looked under the hood and everything seems ok but I can smell the oil/petrol fumes coming from somewhere around the engine around the intake manifold area. Is this because I didn't get the gaps correct or is it normal now that its been adjusted correctly? The car runs fine and I don't notice any issues with the car yet.

Thanks in advance

There's no way that a valve adjustment, even if done wrong could cause a fuel leak. I would think you are smelling oil vapors. You probably created an oil leak when reinstalling the valve cover, sometimes it helps to retorque the vc bolts when the motor is hot and the rubber grommets under the bolts are soft.
