Each set-up depends on the manifold used.

Optimal oil return lines run straight down then at an angle leading to the pan with no 'upward' travel.

my oil return is kinda in the way of my dp, and i dont want it close to the dp either, so how i'm thinkin of doin it is having it run off to the side a little, but it will still be flowing downwards, no upwards angles at all, will this be ok? i can take some pics a little later on today, but will it be ok as long as theres no level or upward angles?
thanks
daniel

You want it short as possible. Just weld on a new fitting to the pan.
