Is this a good deal? Pros and Cons?
Well i've been riding for about a total of 20 miles, over a span of 3 months of summer.. My friend taught me to ride his 02 yama r6 and ever since i've been riding it, i've loved how smooth it is for a carburated bike with a weak dampener. I'm not sayin i have experience w/ diff bikes, its jus it felt smooth. My old manager is selling his 99 r6 and i took it out for a ride.. Analog gauges, new clutch, blue/white scheme and 16k miles. I took it out for a ride today and it felt smooth after 10 mph.. when pulling it out of first it kind of shuttered.. i dunno if thats the clutch or the carburation, or it just being a 99.. The bike is salvaged title because of theft, but he said hes had it for a year and no problems besides the 4th gear going out, but he fixed it. He said the bike is mine if he decides to sell it, and i can have it for $2800. Should i jump on it? Or wait to get a newer (00-02) r6.. cuz thas all i can afford currently? Are tehre any common probs i should be aware of with a 99 r6? The steering was kind of wiggly when i was leaning on a turn but maybe cuz i held the handle bars too stiff.. Give me you're input guys! i appreciate it.. Thanks in advance
Id say pass on it, my buddy bought a 99 R6 with same mileage on it and he has alllll kinds of problems with it, its been a pain sence day 1. unless you plan to ride less than 10 mph all the time, did it shutter when you shifted into second or just accelerating through first....

Im hoping you mean 20,000 miles, not 20....heh...
On my 99 ZX-7 i had carb issues as well, I would avoid carbs unless you are hurtin for cash and need a cheap bike....but in that case might be better to hold off till you can afford a better one anyway....just my .02

i salvage bike will always have a low price... on another note, a 99 r6 that is in good condition and runs well for 2800 bucks is a good deal.... it depends i guess i would have to see it.... a wiggly steering could be many things, the road, tire pressure, loose bolts, bearings, your body positioning.... all of which are minor, on another note could be as serious as frame damage... etc etc, how much do you trust this guy? not that it matters, but hows the body of the bike.. has it been down ever?? yamaha has alot of transmission issues, its not unusual..... if the bike is clean and you have somebody go look at it and say its nice (a reputable person who knows bikes, then jump on it) 2800 isnt bad for an r6..... id still try to talk him down, anything you get off of the price is money to put into gear....... let us know what you decide......
i've known the guy for about 1yr, my friend(whos been riding since he was 12 from pakistan, he is now 24 and owns a zx10r) was with him when they purchased it, he personally checked it out, rode it and said the bike was solid. it's been laid down once by the previous owner and has 2 minor scratches on the right mid front and rear fairings. i am hurting for cash but im not purchasing the bike until november. because he still loves the bike and isnt sure if he wants to let it go. i jus dont want have the bike turn into a headache. it only shutters when im rollin from 0-10.. between shifts the bike is smoother than my friends 02.. and yes i've 20 miles of experience.. MSF courses for me start in september..
