Default 96 civic EX

I'm about to take it to the tranny shop to get the fluid changed.

Does this car have a filter?

TIA

do you change your own engine oil? if so, you should be able to change your tranny fluid w/ no problem and save a few bucks.

If it's auto then yes. If it's manual, no.

Changing the tranny fluid in a manual tranny is EASY. Take out the bottom plug and drain it. Take out the top plug and fill it till it spills out.

I'm sorry I did not specify. It's an automagic 96 EX.

I took it to Strauss (like an autozone). They would not change my fluid unless i signed a waiver.
They said since the fluid has never been changed before (currently 73k on it), they risk damaging it. I just went home.

I'm not sure what to do. The shifts arent smooth and the fluid levels are right.
