sparco seat
I am going to purchase a spraco evo 2 seat for my CRX soon, will I be able to mount this seat lower than the factory seat? I am looking to lower my seating position as much as possible, thanks.
The seat itself is lower, but if you get slider brackets and a mounting bracket, the mounting hardware is going to be abit taller than the OEM setup.
Take my advice, pay the extra $60-80 and get the custom made brackets, making your own is a pain.

well it is a side mount seat and I was going to get the fixed universal side mount brackets, not the sliders. I really need this seat to mount as low as possible. Where on the seat are the side mount holes?
I have the narrower Evo:

Without sliders and just the side brackets and Sparco/Wedge base (old style), the seat is slightly lower. But I had to adjust the rake of the seat so that it is somewhat reclined. You may have different results depending on what your arm/leg length and driving position dictate. It can easily be the same or higher than stock if I wanted a more upright position.
If you are thinking that you can "drop" the seat below the bottom of the side mounts, you need to consider that the chassis bracket is a square and prevents this somewhat. You could cut the front and back beams out of the "square", but this will reduce some rigidity. Additionally, I was able to mount the side mounts like this _|seat|_ versus this |_seat_|. This allows a little dropping of the seat. However, the Evo2's increased width is probably going to force you to do the 2nd way. Meaning you will be limited by the flat/horizontal portion of the side bracket. Like this |seat|.
Whatever you do don't try to mount the side mounts directly to the floor. It is not flat, nor is the sheet metal reinforced in the corresponding areas to prevent tear-out.
You should consider custom brackets, something that will utilize the reinforced OEM mount points, but allows attachment of the side mounts relatively close to the floor.

Let's put it like this.. I have the Speed's in my crx.
Where I used to be able to do the gangsta lean with my arm uut the window, with my custoom fabbed seat rails, I can hardly reah anymore. My shoulder ends lower than the edge of the door panel.
And I am NOT a short dude.

On stock crx vtec seats I drill my roof with my spiky hair :-D in other words... I was sitting extremely incomfortable (me = 6'7" = 1.98 appr.)
Therefore, I bought a set of Carbontrenz Spoon-style (jeuj :-P ) seats so I could lower my position behind the wheel... and it DID!!! Now I have about 3" space between head n roof
And I even managed to use the old rails so I can move my seats!!
IT ROCKS ! :-D

hmm 6'7'' with a crx.....ever think about a crv with a vtec head or something?
anyway, im not trying to hijack but the cheaper sparco seat, i guess its the speed, with the stock mounts sits lower than the crx si seats?
i need something low cuz you cant heel/toe when your right leg hits the steering wheel

haha yea, i do that when i wear etnies but when i wear flip flops addidas im screwed. thney arent wide enough. whatta you know about coming into a tight lefty a little hot, hard on the brakes and blippin the throttle with flip-flops?
maybe i need to better invest my time, stick with etnies, but id rather have the sparco.

Here's a Sparco Pro2000 mounted straight to the floor using the Sparco aluminum sidemounts. I had to cut through the front seat mounting rail that is spot welded to the floor for the sidemounts to come close to sitting on the floor. I then went through the floor with the bolts, and really large washers.
I have a really tall back, so with the stock seats, and no sunroof, I was hitting my head on the ceiling all the time. Now I have 4-5 inches of head room. Most other people sit in the seat, and can't even see over the dash. That'll give you an idea of how low the seat can be mounted. And this does wonders to lower the center of gravity of the car.

i have the fighters (basemount). And they sit a lot higher then the stock.
I had to wedge the seat higher in the front so that i had a little recline so that my head wouldnt hit..
i got used to it, and it doesnt look bad at all. plus im running the sliders also...
id love to get some custom basemounts thoe and klower the seat some

It's actually pretty funny to see a fellow 6'7" CRX driver. :D So I am thinking now I will cut out the factory mounting brackets welded to the floor and weld some reinforcement plates under the car to support the bolts that I will use to mount the side mounts. The EVO 2 is actually the same width, the shape and padding is just different. Right now I have no head clearance and I cannot use the tradition heel-toe method which I would like to because of steering wheel clearance, the ball method doesn't work too well, can't use enough brake travel. Will mounting it like that work? I've heard one person say yes and one say no here. That crappy bracket doesn't really look like it does anything for rigidity, it just looks like it's to mount the seat. :dunno:
