Default Should i Port and Polish the ITR Head?

Hi guys im planning on buying the assembled ITR head for my GSR and before i put it on.
Should i get it ported and polished some more than the factory porting.
Also i heard it's not a good idea to polish as standard allows more swirl in the combustion chamber for better a/f mixing. Polish head will flow better but wont have good mixtures. Any thoughts?
Has anyone bought one of these before and is it just bolt on? Do i need purchase anything else besides intake manifold.
Thanks guys!

I blew up my motor and had to buy a new head, I got one from a guy who races speedvision and it had a light polish job on it, I'll be dynoing it in about a month so we'll see. I don't know what you have to do to put it on a GSR.

Honda's job is not really that great - mainly casting fin/bur removal.

You may want to have it milled though, since the CR will less than stock w/ the ITR head. Might be a better idea to have a GS-R head P&P instead. Since it will already be off the engine, installing the ITR cams, springs, etc. (or the cams and valvetrain of your choice) in the GS-R head wouldn't be too difficult a task. As for the IM, you could modify an ITR manifold or use a S2 if you want the single-runners. Just another suggestion.

Well if you were gonna port it, wouldn't it have been a helluva lot cheaper just to get a b16a head? I thought it was the same head minus the factory port job. However, Im not 100% certain that is the only difference so don't flame me if you're in the know....................

No differences between jdm and us.

If you want to spend the money, send it to portflow. It will be 10x better than
stock.

Correct me if I am wrong here guys but I think I remember reading somewhere that the ITR head assembly that you purchase new from Honda is not ported/polished. They do this when the engine's are being assembled on the production line. So only the one's placed onto a complete engine for dropping into an ITR have this done. This may or may not be true so someone correct me if I am wrong......

I purchased my head new from Naples Acura and it had a mild port job. If they were to port it durring assembly there would some quality controll issues.

i think it was discussed before and the newer itrs are ported by machine at honda, the old ones were by hand but they started making too many itrs for that to be practicle, at least i think that was the given reason. -rob

Lets put it this way, I know i have posted on more than one occasion
regarding off the shelf ported ITR heads in the past.

Its not really funny when people post about things they dont know about.
It only causes more confusion for others who are trying to learn.

Nice comment Steve...you helped me quite a bit indirectly when I was still a newbie, and continue to learn from your experience.
