Default Skunk2 H22 Intake Manifold Is A Bust!!!

So I'm talking to the guys from inline four, and they tell me that when Omni Man left Skunk, he never finished the line of IMs for the H series, and Skunk went ahead and used what they had left. The intake is not only overpriced, but IL4 also tells me you actually LOSE POWER!!! So, I ask you, which IM would you recommend. And no, I am not paying 300 bucks for 8 horsepower for the Euro R IM. I want a big increase in torque and HP. I don't care how much I hafta spend. Thanks, Rob.

first of all...you only lose power if your car is stock......2point6 had dynos of the skunk2 manifold and it showed that it was almost as good as the euro r manifold but could give more gains to others with the 2.2L instead of 2point6's 2.44L motor...something about the stroke i think?
but yeah if you want something that won't let you down and money isnt an issure...then go for ITB's....but that also will probably lose power if its on a stock motor....

i just installed the OBX manifold on my turbo h22. the install sucked: machining of flange, some fabricating/ creative thinking...etc. and ive yet to get it tuned (should be tuned wednesday) but after a non-aggressive drive around the block in low rpm's it feels to be alright. from what ive heard the manifold sees big gains in the upper rpm's though so time will tell. im fairly happy with it so far for the cost...$175 for the mani, $40 for surfacing, $15 for fittings, vac hoses and T-fittings + alot of time in the install...

if you want big gains and you dont mind spending a ton, go custom. have a performance shop or fab shop weld you a custom IM taylored to your setup. otherwise its just a trial and error with the different manifolds to choose from.

If you think 300 bucks for 8whp isn't worth it you need to leave the honda scene immediatley. You are seriously retarded.

yeah i was thinking just about the same thing. plus no intake manifold is going to give you much over 20 whp with mild mods.

I am sure you guys have already read my input...
ON MY ENGINE: The Euro R made the most useable power throughout the rev range. The Skunk2 made the most peak HP at 7500 rpm, at about +3, but was down across the entire range of useable power. Flow charateristics of these manifolds go in this order from best to worse, so I find this very interesting...
Skunk2, stock, Euro R. I did testing on a modified stock manifold that has proven to work better than the manifold above. Making more TQ and HP throughout te rev range and about the same peak HP as the skunk2.

Personally, I have run all these manifolds and tested them extensively, with exception of my modified stock version. I was unable to do more testing as I feel there is even more to be gained, but I will follow up with that soon.

So is the Skunk2 worth the 300+ that you pay??

^^ Wasn't necessary at all. It's just HIS opinion. I sorta agree....i'd rather spend half the money to do mods to my stock manifold. As 2point6 said, it made similar gains to the Skunk2IM.....but anyway, I think it is inevitable to have some sort of FI when using a manifold such as skunk2.....

But for 8 whp, which I won't even get, I could have a Tial wastegate for my nice new T3/T4 turbo setup. I may have been mistaken when I said its not worth it, but rather 'better invested in other parts of the project'. Now can we understand?

Let's also keep in mind, I'm not doing little Mickey Mouse tuning, so when I setup a closed deck H22 block with forged Mahle pistons, I'd rather be spending more money on machine work, and making sure it doesn't fail under boost, rather than getting 8 whp (which it won't even be). By the way when I talked to Steve from IL4, he said ITBs would be the best. They're about $550, but they blow a Euro-R and a Skunk outta the water.

I have seen 8whp gains outta of a vafc2 and hondatas gains +20whp tuning is a big key and why is the torque low? every ported or larger than stock intake manifold dyno I have seen losses torque in exchange for greater peak horsepower numbers... which is better horsepower or torque? (I know I know....) except for the h22s honda engines have very very little torque and I would want mods that increase that number......

MY 2 cents: Get the OEM intake Manifold extrune honed (sort of like a port and polish for your IM), that way you get the flow characteristics of the stock with slightly more power.

Ive seen some decent numbers out of a sk2 mani. I wouldnt get one unless you were NA (Id go GE or something better for boost) and had some headwork.

Hell no Extrude hone is garbage. If you truely want somethign that performs, send your whole head and IM to someone Like Brad at RLZ who would match your headwork and port your intake manifold to work well together.
