Default a track bike..

Since i totalled, or wrecked i should say, my RR, i was planning on parting it out and selling it and make a little money (which i may have to resort to, depending on how the lawsuit goes). But talking with a friend, he asked, "why don't you make a track bike out of it?"

This idea hit me like a brick. I will buy another street bike, but why not make the beat up bike a track bike, rather then risking a brand new bike, with all street parts, on the track.

Here is the low down on my RR:

-front wheel bent
-front forks broken in half
-front cowl, handle bars, windscreen, brake resivoir, disingrated
-right upper and mid fairings, gone. needs new tank cover
-rearsets on both sides, gone
-front discs, probably caliper as well

then some small things, like light rash on tail, etc.

some "good" things about the bike
-engine untouched (LIGHT scratched on case cover, dent in radiator)
-frame appears to be straight
-rear suspension = good

So, to turn this into a track bike, or any bike into a track bike (for me, i'd want no upgrades, or only very minor upgrades to the engine .. i.e. exhaust, PC if i needed, etc) what kind of money am i looking at and what would i need to upgrade? I would buy alot of thinks second hand, i.e. race plastics, etc.

I know its alot of question, but i have this bike sitting around thats banged up, but not really in that bad of shape. thanks

i added 3 things i forgot, the gas tank cover needs replacing, front brake rotors/maybe calipers/resivior.

basically, the front of the bike is GONE. it's just not there. the right side fairings are gone. then small minor things.

ah i just dont know what to do .. it may be early to thinking about it, since i dont know what my options are, legally, financially, etc .. but it gives me something to think about and plan.

either way, i will not be back on the street with this bike.

I have the front "fender" in great condition and a gas tank cover with some (not a lot) of rash on it. Both are black.....

Is not coming back to the street a choice? You can score a used race body for like 350 and i know you can get the mechanical stuff back into shape for 650 or less... Then just strap on some lights and you're back in business...Hell, move to CA with your bike and I'll help you do it for fun.

haha sounds like a plan .... but i'm flat broke, havn't worked in over a month, and the bills have drained everything that i had, and ironically i'm talking about what i want to do with my bike.

anyways, for the street, i'm gonna look for an extremely low mileage 05. People say that once a bikes been involved in an accident, it will never be like it was, so i'd rather keep it off the street and throw it on the track, which in thinking about it, it's kind of like the same thing. but i guess theres no cars to run you over or power poles to hit.

also, with it having a salvage title or a soon to be salvage title, it's gonna be harder to sell and all that.

here is what i was kind of thinking, off the top of my head. I havn't researched into race bikes, or the conversion from street to track, so if i sound like an idiot, that's why.

- used race plastics
- look into forks, i read that aftermarket are cheaper then OEM .. i need forks either way.

uhmmm .. wow, other then plastics, i'm not sure what else is involved in the conversion? other then having a good suspension, setup for the rider's weight, good tires, etc.

ok .. i need to go read more about this. thanks ash

If you ever want to sell it, I may be interested; not like I haven't taken apart and reassembled a 600rr a zillion times. salvage titles seem not to matter in CA for registrations. For forks, just get used oem; aftermarket (i.e. ohlins @ 2500ish) are pricey.

Have the frame checked.

If the forks snapped in half they took a lot of load... enough that could've tweaked the frame pretty easily. It would be a shame to see you get this thing up and moving again only to find that it doesn't track straight.
