Default bigger slicks vs small slicks

I have a b16a 1.6l with 178 whp which slick would be the better choice 22s 0r 23s ive ran good on the 22s but i need about three more mph iam finishing the 1/4 in fourth gear for now, Iam thinking the 23s are going to slow me down with the horse power that i have. What do you guys think . Ps iam trying to run a certain et with the hp that i got that's why i have said nothing about increasing my hp.

How long are you in fourth???... you should probably be in it for awhile with that gearing, that power, and the 22" slick. Everything in that setup sounds to be alright.

What is your rpm in 4th as you are going through the traps?

^^^^That is what will decide. If you have rpm left (which you should cause we go 121mph in 4th about 8900 rpm on the b16 tranny in a friends hatch) I'd even think about going w/ m/t 20x8's. Don't tell me you have to much power for them either cause' I've made plenty of 11 sec. passes @120 mph+ on the 22's. IMO, the shortest slick you can control is always the best choice(if you have the gearing for it).

as long as you hit redline in 4th or close to redline in 4th it will be good. if you're not running out of 4th gear with those 22's then it will be fine.....

I agree. I'm right at the 8k redline at the finish line with a GSR tranny and 23" slicks. I'm trapping at 122-123. 22"s should be PLENTY tall for a N/A car.

as of this past weekend, i can verify that the 23's will be too big.........i threw mine on a buddy's close to stock gsr, and they probably did more bad that good. anything under 19psi was a garunteed bog, stick with the 22's

For sure.

We have had better luck with 20's with a B16 184whp NA setup. 22's will result in better 60's but the ET/mph was not as good as the 20's.

how much power will it take to spin 23, or even 24.5 for that matter? i'm maxing out my 22" slicks, and i have a set of 23" at the house!

well i made 187whp and 157trq in my H22 hatch and ran 24.5x8x13 MT slicks. I pulled high 1.8's and ran an ET of 12.8@103mph and 12.9@105mph

I run 23's with the H tranny and 215whp/163wtq. Pull low 1.7's or high 1.6's with just skunk drag coils and decent track prep.

Final drive gearing also play a role in this equation.

i run 24.5 m&h's on a b16a tbat put 187hp to the ground last time at the dyno and i have no problems with them. puts down low 1.7 on a regular basis on a stock suspension.

With a 4.4FD? Your 60's will be good however your ET's will be hurt'n with that big of a tire. Are you even shifting into 4th before the traps?

damm good driving, you're getting god results out of your set up! <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by skunked &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

I would just try the 23's and see if you can keep it in 4th through the traps. If you run a 4.7 you will most likely need to go with a bigger slick than a 23 to keep it in 4th. What is your rev limit at? We have a few cars running 11.5-11.8 on GSR tranny's keep'n it in 4th but they spin to 9.5K......

They make over 250 and weigh between 2K and 2.2K. You need to spin that motor a little more
