i've looked for answers with no success...... i owned a 1996 accord lx with 5sp. the speedo just went out... wanted to know if there is a fuse for the vss.. cause no code was thrown by the ecm,, before the speedo went out, i got the smell of plastic burning not a strong smell but able to smell it i thought it was the traffic around me but then after a while noticed my speedo was gone any suggestion .... thank you

 

since you smelled burning plastic I would guess that your cluster is the problem. I would check the cluster first.

 

forgot to mention that i did remove the cluster and check the gauge no burning smell in any place near the cluster or engine compartment?

 

try a new vss

 

i think its your cluster... the plastic smell was probably the speedo circut burning... if you can try getting a new speedo ... unless the vss is located in your cabin .. i dont think you would be able to smell it.. if you go to those small junk yards/ wrecking yard.. where the guys have most of the parks already on shelves.. maybe you can ask them if you can plug one of the used speedos in and see if it works.. im pretty sure they let you take one around the bluck if you left your id with them or sumthing

if speedo is out, but tacho is still running good, is it still the VSS?
