Default overheating ZC - changed thermo

my car has been good for 4-5 years now and i went on a fairly long trip recently and may have been a bit lean under boost, but whatever, who knows.

but when i parked i let it idle to time the turbo, and i came back to check on it and it was reading very very hot, so i shut it off, and the fan was on trying to cool it down.

after that it was good for a couple days and then it started overheating at random times, i would be just slowly cruising to the car wash adn it would climb to abnormally hot, then back down to normal and kinda fluctuate.

so then after a few times of it doing this, i change my thermostat to the coldest one you can get, drove for a couple days and it overheated on me today again just as i got home.

can my car just not cool well enough or do i have a blown head gasket?
how can i be sure its a blown head gasket?

coolant looked ok when i pulled it out, not milky or anything.

stock zc blacktop, custom turbo setup running the afc hack.

help me!

My sister drove around with a blown headgasket for over 6 months on her SOHC. The oil wasnt milky and the coolant wasnt discolored eathier. The only way I was able to figure out why it was overheating and that the HG was blown was this stuff you can buy @ Shucks for like $20 bucks. You mix it with the coolant and it turns colored and tells you if there is exhaust in the coolant. Another symptom of of the blown HG's that is fairly common is filling of the overflow bottle and disapearing coolant. If you were running lean under boost, add a few % of fuel and pull the timming down another degree or two and you should be good to go if thats what caused it to blow.

good luck
