Default Is custom make cat-back exhaust 2.5 good enough at mufflershop?

I thought it'll be cheaper if i take my 93lude vtec to the muffler shop to custom pipe a 2.5 inch exhaust after i install the dc header. instead of gettin a cat-back exhaust system for 600 bucks. any advice would be helpful.

I got my full cat-back exhaust system with magnaflow muffler and resonator for $350 total. Good deal but I wish I had gotten an apexi ws2 catback or something, because fitement is always better. Good luck

a custom built cat back by a competent muffler shop offers better fitment than a mass produced catback

That's teh hard part right there. So many muffler shops are just shade tree mechanics out for a quick buck from Joe Schmoe who doesn't care how it works, or looks and just needs a quick OEM type replacement.

I got mine done at a local speed shop. It was a good deal and ended up sounding awesome. Just find a local person you can trust.

i have the same setup...2.5 mandrel bent catback with a magnaflow muffler n carsound hiflow cat. man i wish i put in a resonator too. when i 1st had it built it sounded great, nice deep tone. but since then its turned into a loud, annoying, raspy weedwacker sound and i HATE it. when i have the time n money im gonna go back to the shop n see how much it would be to have a resonator put in there n see how much of a difference it will make. wish i wasnt so thickheaded n listened to the guy in the 1st place bc he told me it may be a lil loud.

Thats why I had a resonator put in. It was a 18"long magnaflow placed close to the cat, it sounded great for the 15k miles I used it for. If you cannot find a local speed shop, go with kteller.com, they have piping kits and you can buy the muffler and maybe resonator and have someone local just weld it.

For the most part, it is NOT worth it.

MOST muffler shops only work with crush-bent piping, which has rough transitions on the curves and reduces the piping size in the bends as well. What you want is mandrel-bent piping, which keeps a steady smooth diameter throughout the exhaust, regardless of bends.

but the apexi world sport exhaust is awesome...easy install...great sound....very close to stock sound and i slapped a dc header on at the same time...first thing i've ever done to an engine.....i noticed huge increase in top end power....you should consider it, only 400 shipped to your door..

I got my used Apex'i WS for $240 on eBay.

Get a good muffler if you are going custom. I hear too many bad sounding custom exhausts on preludes. It makes me sad
