tranny reassembly issues

Default tranny reassembly issues

how the hell do i get the clutch housing to close against the bell housing? i have 1/4 inch to close before i can get the snap ring onto the groove of the bearing!!

what gives?

please help!

figured it out...had to shift the gears using the linkage.

Or if the reverse lockout ring isnt aligned... or the shift forks arent lined up... so many things can cause the case not to close up. I like to shift it into 4th gear and the case usually drops right on.

that is exactly what i did ! 4th gear and it closed! it was sooo frustrating.

Thanks for the tips, I will be swapping differential bearings tomorrow and I am alittle intimidated to say the least, ok, I am flat out scared. While I am there, I am swapping the clutch and flywheel. Oh, and the entire job will be a solo effort, and I am alittle nervous on how I will get the tranny back onto the block by myself. And I only have one floor jack and was hoping I could brace the block with a cinderblock.

I hope you have a helms..... replacing the diff bearings requires a bearing splitter and a press.

Why are you doing this? Installing an LSD? I haven't ever seen diff bearings go, N/A at least.
