Acura CL, What engines where they equipped with?
Have just got my eyes opened on this model..
Since I live in Sweden we donīt have the Acura segment here.
Recently saw a picture of the CL in a issue of HCI and fell in love with it..
Now I seeking general info about it, such as engines availible, Transmission and other stuff..
Would like to import one into Sweden and pimp around in it...
Help and info is appriciated..

Depending what year it is.
97-99: either the J30a V6 (auto only) or F22 SOHC 4 cylinder (auto or mtx)
00-03: Type-S came with 260 HP J32a V6 with optional 6spd in 03

Iīm looking at the 97-99 model...
When looking at diffrent ads I have found all sorts of engines 2.2, 2.3, 2.5 etc...
What other models have the F22 engine?
How strong is the F22 engine?

I dont know for sure about the hp ratings but the 2.2L and 2.3L are the same as in the accord. The 2.3L is the 150hp version I think (may be +/- 10 or so hp) and the 2.2L is probably the 145hp version if not it is gonna be the 135hp one. Basically the powertrains from the 97-99 CL are those that are in the 95-2002 accords. As for the 2.5L I think that is a rare version that they decided to put the 2.5L I-5 into the CL as I remeber reading about it but I have never seen one. This powertrain was put in the TL as well as the Vigor and was really never that good of an engine as it is hard to work on and wasnt as reliable as some of hondas other engines (although most people with vigors will attest to their reliability the 2.7L V6 in the legend shows better reliability from what i have seen.) If I were you I would go for the 2.3CL or the 3.0 CL but if you do get the 3.0 make sure you get the tranny tested and right after you buy it put a tranny cooler on it as the J series trannys are known for being the weakpoint of that drivetrain.

actually the 2.5L I-5 motor is very reliable! I've seen many Vigors with over 300,000kms on orginal engine and tranny!
I myself have 300,900kms on it with org tranny and engine. oh and my timing belt snapped at 299,800kms while driving and i thought yup motor is done.... replaced the belt and car started just the same as before... no power loss or anything

The CL never came with an H-series, although it can be swapped in fairly easily. As far as the 2.5 I-5 motor going into a CL, I find it unlikely that it would ever fit. Especially since it uses a longitudinal layout rather than transverse like the CL.

Yeah i knew that was comming. lol anyways I the only work I have ever performed on a I5 honda motor was an oil change in a 2.5TL and man that thing was a pain. The oil filter is in the perfect spot so it is hard to get to from either the top or the bottom. I have just always heard that the C27 in the legend far outlasts the I5 in the vigor. We will see how long my little motor keeps turning for it is sitting at 180k miles and still has yet to even have anything done to the engine besides oil spark plugs and timing belt.
As for the engine the 2.2CL is the F22 vtec as was in the 94-97 accords with 145 hp the 2.3CL is the F23 that is in the 1998-2002 accord producing 150hp and the 3.0CL has the J30 producing 200hp that was in the 1998-2002 accord v6's all of which are SOHC with VTEC.

I heard the I5 was in the CL but I cant find any information about it so I am guessing they never put it in there. I guess the I5 was a vigor/TL only engine in this case then.

Wrong...the 2000 model CL never came with a 3.2. Only 2001-2003. And FYI, the 6speed was standard on the 2003 model, the Tiptronic was optional...no idea why anyone would want to sport for the optional auto tranny, but it was the option, the manual was standard.

I am not seeing any info for the 2.5L. As for what engine it is honda never made a 4 cylinder that was 2.5L in size so if it is not the Inline 5 it has to be the C25 V6 that was in the first gen legend. I cant find any info of a 2.5CL existing though only a 2.5L TL so it might just be a misprint

thats what th 2.5L Inline 5 motor looks like.

* Water cooled, 4 stroke single overhead cam gasoline engine
* It has an inline 5-cylinder 30 degree slant mount cylinder arrangement
* The bore and stroke is 85.0 x 86.4 mm
* The actual displacement is 2,451 cubic centimetres or 149 cubic inches
* The compression ratio is 9.0:1
* The valve train is belt driven with a single overhead cam and 4 valves per cylinder
* The lubrication system is a forced and wet sump trochoid pump
* This engine requires UNLEADED grade gasoline with a 91 Pump Octane Number or higher
Engine Type: 2.5-litre,SOHC, 20 valve, inline 5 cylinder
Horsepower (SAE Net): 196 hp @ 6300rpm
Torque (SAE Net): 185lbs-ft @ 3900rpm
Redline: 6800rpm
Fuel Cutoff: 7100rpm
Engine Block: Aluminum alloy with cast iron cykinder liners
Cylinder Heads : Aluminum alloy

Is Honda themself who has built the engine?

Honda did infact make this motor. As for why you have never heard of it it is because it hasnt been put in a honda since the 1996 TL and before that honda only put it in the vigor and the tl to begin with. No other honda as far as I know of has ever been equiped with this motor.

I think you mean "4 cylinder" or a v6. It's an I4, as posted above. Just correcting your terms.

Actually the 2.5L honda motor is an I% meaning inline 5 cylinder not a 4 cylinder as you stated.

I am not totally sure on the engine code but that sounds right to me, maybe someone with this motor can tell us for sure.
