gsr oem lsd??
sup guys? i have a question and a problem. i recently purchase an lsd that i was told was a jdm gsr lsd. when took my tranny apart and tried to install the new diff, it was hitting the lower fins in the case. it also physically looked alot wider than the stock gsr diff and a type r diff. does anyone have any info on jdm gsr lsd's??
do they work in usdm gsr trannys??? i would think so but it doesnt. unless this isnt a gsr lsd at all and the dude ripped me off. anyone with some input please help!!!

I hope you really studied up on this. It is not something a beginner should attempt alone. It is definately not just plug-n-play. IM me for more info if you need help.
tranny's are the same across oceans.
How many splines are on the inside lsd part... Thats a good way to tell, search for others using the same, theres a couple thread out there that have the info you will need.

well this isnt the first time ive done this, (not that it makes it any easier)
,
but this was the first time ive ever seen this kinda diff before. its a stock jdm oem
gsr lsd. it looks nothing like a factory type r diff. this diff starts out wide from the ring gear, and becomes narrow to the speedo gear. well anyway from what i was told by the only person i could find that is using this jmd gsr lsd is that the lower fins in the case have to be trimmed down a little, cause thats what was hitting the diff. once i did that it fit perfect, the rest of the install went very smooth.

Do not trim the case, this is where everyone goes wrong.
If you have a B16 differential and are going with a Gsr this is what you have to do.

that article says not to grind the case if you are trying to use b16 bearings on a gsr/type r diff, instead you should be using the correct gsr/type r roller bearings for the diiff,......which i am. brand new from the dealer. the issue of getting the diff to seat all the way down was not a bearing issue, it was the shape of the diff itself.
it was still physicaly hitting the fins. there was no way around it, i had to shave the fins down alittle to get it to fit. but once i did that, everthing else went together like gravy... all the clearences were checked, and shimmed accordingly, tranny was reassembled, the input shaft was rotated smoothly through every gear to check for any binding, everthing turned out great. now i just need to install it in the car, put on my slicks, and crack the case wide open at the track!
just kidding, but
knowing my luck...........who knows?
