Default installed new gauge cluster and now im blowing a fuse, why?

I had a cx cluster and just got a cluster from an lx (?). it was a coupe with a 7k redline and it was also auto. i plug it in and it works but i get in my car tonight and turn my lights on and the dash lights dont light up. the blinker lights and everything light up but not the lights for the gauges. so im driving in front of my friend and he signals me to pull over cause my rear lights arent on and i look and they use the same fuse. i plug another one in (10A) and it blows right away. so i plug a 20A on in and that blows too. any suggestions?

first check all the bulbs that are on that circuit with the gauge cluster. Also there are 2 fuse panels (the other one is under the hood next to the battery), have you checked that one too?

actually no, i thought the only fuse was the instrument/tail light one on the inside of the car. all the bulbs work though cause the blinkers work when my hazards are on and the brake lights still light up

Fuses usually blow immediately when a power wire is being pinched (grounded) against metal. Check behind your gauge cluster because one of those 12v ACC [yellow/black, red/black..etc] power wire may be snagged.

In case you didn't know electrical problems can be traced to something as easily as a blown bulb. If one bulb is out it can cause all kinds of freaky ****. Also when your having electrical problems it's always a good idea to check all the fuses inside and in the engine compartment.

would this be obvious? because i dont really see any wires that look like theyre being grounded.

i checked the fuse box in the engine bay and the 7.5A fuse was blown and as soon as i put a new one in it blew again. i forget which fuse it was for, i think it just said "option"

I had a similar problem last time. I found out that one of the corner light wire was being pinched up front. That caused all my gauge cluster lighting to go out and numerous fuses blown once I switched on the parking light switch. That might be a good place to check instead of around the cluster.

did your corners light up when your hazards were on? cause mine do but not when i just have the blinker on.

checked for pinched wires in the corners and tail lights and found nothing. will pull out the cluster again and look for pinched wires behind that tomorrow when its light out.

just noticed something, i had my car painted last week and paint got in the harnesses for the tail lights on the tailgate. looks like theres paint on the metal connectors themselves. could this have screwed anything up? i unplugged em and still no lights to the guage or the other tail lights
