my LS piston rings are near burnt. i was told that i might as well do a rebuild while the shop has my motor taken apart.
i found a good deal on USDM ITR pistons.
im not planning to do anything to the motor (turbo/NA)
this is my daily beater and was wondering if the itr pistons are a good stock replacement.
another question- are all b-series valvetrains the same?
if i find a deal on itr/gsr valves, springs, retainers, i might just toss those into my head also.
thanks for your help!

Yeah, they are fine for a daily driver. You might have issues if you are running them on a nonvtec head.....not sure what the valve clearences are.
Itr pistons will be a nice upgrade and bump in compression, as far as the valve clearance, that will be fine also, the itr's have a much larger valve relief. with the dual springs and retainers you will need the spring base that will accomidate the dual springs. You can buy these from portflow for 60.00 for the set of 16. Good luck with your build.

would re-using my LS rods be fine with the itr pistons?

most likely i will do it. all depends on the TRUE cause of my burning oil.
i did a compression test 2 weeks ago and it they were
Cyl4 ---- Cyl 1
210 200 200 190
im going to do a leak down test as well in the very near future.
im going to get an oil change either tomorrow or sunday and see how dark the oil is.

Yes, the ls rods will be fine with the itr pistons, just have your machine shop take 1mm of each side of the small end of the rod. Lemme know if you have any other questions

why do they need to do that?
would it be better if i just get itr rods?
i dont want to "modifiy" anything to MAKE it fit.

Its a simple modification, alot of people have done it, Ls and b16a rods have a wider small end on the rod, gsr, and itr are thinner. If you dont want to machine the rod at all get a set of p30 pistons, they will fit the ls rod with 0 machine work. In order to use itr rods, you would need to use an itr crank, waste of money and you will make less power.
