Default Whats wrong with my car!

Hey, im having a problem with my car. My pass side axel was making some noise and vibrating, and upon my inspection i saw that the inner boot was all messed up, so i replaced the axel. With the new axel in i drove around the block and there was a rotational vibration coming from the axel (simmilar to the noise initaly but without the noise, just the vibration). I took the wheel off and spun the hub, and it turns out the whole tranny moves a little each time the wheel rotates. now im not sure if its a tranny problem or a axel problem but the axel seems to oscilate as it spins in the tranny. sorry for typing so much but im really fustrated and not sure whats wrong. Thanks

Did you get the axle all the way in? Is the hub on the axle straight? Spindle nut torqued down?

You should need to seriously force the axle into the tranny, look again and see if you can see any shinny surface on the inner shaft, thenits not in far enough. Tranny moves because the mounts are broken , do a break torque test and have a friend help and see if the mounts are broken.

I'm not sure exactly how to do a brake torque test, but I know you have to somehow put a load on the engine...hold the brake and hit the gas while in gear, but the car needs to be standing still...you should have someone else watch the engine and see which way it torques to. This will tell you which mounts are bad.

If I missed something, help me out

You are correct about the brake torque test but do it in drive then let off of the gas, put it in rev, let off the gas, go to drive and gun it again, then let off and go to rev and gun it.

Dont be affraid, just keep one hard foot on the brake and give it some real gas for just a couple of seconds while the other person inspects the motor mounts.
