If you look straight into the BOV there are 4 hex head screws. Unscrew them and the enitre silver cap/front piece comes off. Thats it.

it says the purple is standard low frequency sound and gold is louder. my purple insert now sounds pretty loud like a greddy type S.

Doesn't it come with the purple one?

Let us know how it sounds. These are $25 and may be fun to toy around with

Only 4 come out from what I remember. Just test them until they loosen.

Your purple one uses all of the 8 hex bolts to hold in the valve suppressor a bit more tightly for a higher piercing sound. When you switch to the Gold one, it uses only 4 of the SMALLER hex bolt openings. It says it (though in Japanese) on the instructions that come with it. The 8 hex screws remove the outer housing.

The sound to me is a bit more "Professional" and not as high piercing. It sounds great after 14psi, but with less pressure, it's much quieter.

Tried it. With no insert or outer housing the Valve only sees like 2 psi, then it becomes a pressure leak. You can't hold boost without it.

damn '04 member!!

really it sounds completely different on the evo, much better on the evo. Is it because of the low boost? 6 vs 20 psi?

What do you guys set the spring tension too?

Wait a minute...

You purchased a HKS BOV, only to spend more money to make it sound like the less expensive Greddy Type-S?

Or am I misunderstanding the purpose of these inserts?

Look at the instructions closely. The silver insert( The way it came in the universal application in the box) has all 8 screws being used to hold the diaphram in. If you notice on the instructions........ only the 4 smaller holes are used to hold in the gold, to change the sound pitch. (See how it only shows 4 holes being used......)

If you look at the 2 inserts together, one is SLIGHTLY (look closely now) thinner on the Upper "triangle" than the other. this is what makes the sound slightly different.
