Rear speakers in a base model 90 civic h/b
I've got the 4 speed civic h/b. It didn't come with rear speakers or anywhere to put them.. Anyone have any suggestions on how to put rear speakers in my car? I was thinking of just keeping it simple and putting some 6x9s in a boxes and dropping them in the trunk, but if there's a better way to do it, I'd love to hear it.
Yes you can fit 6.5 speakers in the front doors, they fit without a problem. As for the rear speakers you just need to find some speaker pods on either ebay, the junkyard or the forsale section on here. Expect to pay anywhere from 20-50 dollars for them.

I tried taking the plastic seat for the speaker out of the door, but the magnet for the speaker was locked against the door and it wouldn't play at all.. I guess maybe I need a speaker that's more shallow?

Seems to be the answer. I have 6.5 pioneers in mine. The rear pods are the rear cargo trays. The little things that the cargo cover rests on. Or you could just put some speakers in the cargo cover, I've seen that tastefully done.
Take out the plasitc pod and cut out a spacer using MDF board. This will keep the speaker away from the window. I've done this, my speakers have a 3" mounting depth. If it rains alot in your area, you may need to purchase a foam baffle for protectiion, purchase this at your local car audio shop or crutchfiled.
PS you may have to raise the door panel, otherwise the front of the speaker will make contact with the panel. I raised the panel area around the speaker using plastic wall anchors and a glue gun.

Also, something to consider is the need of rear speakers. Most serious car audio guys will not use rear speakers, they say it upsets the staging of the music ie. music should be coming from the front as in a concert and not from the rear. Most will add extra bass in the back instead (bass is non directional).

If you like your music to sound live. I like studio **** and surround sound, so it's more or less taste. My set up was going to be 3 ways in the doors, tweeters front and back, Mids in the back, subs in the hatch. That was before I stopped caring about my car though.
i hvae rockford components, i used mdf as a spacer to clear the depth, i didn't even try to use the black piece and cut it out, i snapped both pieces so i didn't bother to try cutting it out, you can alwyas try.
as for the rear speakers, some ef's came with speaker trays, that go where your tray is, instead of it being a tray, its actually raised to fit a 6.5 in the back. thats what i have, you might be able to find it in a junkyard from an Si, i have it on my si.
and 6x9 won't fit too well on the cargo cover, 4x6 i believe fits perfectly
